Trump made comments last week saying that McCain was not a war hero because he was captured during the Vietnam war. When he was asked if he feels like Donald Trump owes him an apology war Senator John McCain said no.

“No, I don’t think so. But I think he may owe an apology to the families of those who have sacrificed in conflict and those who have undergone the prison experience in serving their country.” he added, “There are so many men, and some women, who served and sacrificed and happened to be held prisoner and somehow to denigrate that, in any way, their service I think is offensive.”

Trump has been under fire since he made the remark, McCain is not “a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

Although McCain does not consider himself a hero he does give credit to the senior officers he served with in Vietnam. He said, “A great honor of my life was to serve in the company of heroes. I’m not a hero,”

McCain also had the chance to fire back at Trump who accused him of not using his position as senator to help the veterans in anyway. He said, “For me to look back in anger at anyone is nonproductive,” he continued “And our country was divided in an almost unprecedented fashion during the Vietnam War, and when I came home I was shocked. So I’ve worked ever since to try to heal those wounds.”

Trump still refuses to apologize for his remarks saying, “I’m not a fan of John McCain, he’s doing a horrible job with the vets.”
