And the envelope please..(drum roll please)…The winner of the 2013 car of the year award is………..The Volkswagen Golf…huh?? Yes ladies and gentlemen you heard me right. The newest version of the VW Golf walked away with the award today at the New York Auto Show. Now let me be clear, there are a few different categories for the award. For example, the Golf was not going head to head with any luxury cars like a Porsche or Ferrari, or even certain BMW’s and Mercedes. They were in a different category for best “Performance” car of the year. But even still, how many people would take a Ford, Nissan, Honda, or even some of the Luxury cars that were in the category such as a Lexus or Acura etc instead of a VW Golf. The criteria for the award wasn’t really discussed, so who knows how these voters came to the conclusion that they did. Auto Talk: Next Volkswagen Golf out on the move
Last we heard, Volkswagen was reportedly pushing forward the development of its seventh-generation Golf hatchback, with the final car being ready for public consumption as early as the end of next year. Autoblog spy photographers recently caught this heavily camouflaged prototype for the new global hatch out testing, and though there’s plenty of unknown details, it doesn’t appear that the Golf formula has changed too much.
