Four of the five starters for the Portland Trailblazers have left this offseason leaving the new franchise star Damian Lillard all alone. He’s signed a five-year, $120 million extension that keeps him in Rip City until the 2021 season, and he’s now the longest-tenured Blazer, going into his fourth NBA season. Lillard publicly reached out to LaMarcus Aldridge to try and convince him to stay but he chose to sign with the San Antonio Spurs. There was talk that Aldridge resented Lillard’s emergence as the face of the franchise. But Lillard said that there are no hard feelings between them, and they’re on good terms.

The San Antonio Spurs are known for building a championship team through carefully chosen draft picks and developing their players. This offseason however they did something different, they got in on the free agency game and won big picking up LaMarcus Aldridge and David West. They also got Tim Duncan to return for another season and since he’s still playing quite well, the Spurs are legitimate championship contenders. The reigning champion Warriors coach Steve Kerr jokes around that if coach Greg Popovich can’t win with this team, then he should quit.

NBA free agency officially kicked off at 12.00 am, July 1st and many teams, players and agents began to move quickly trying to get deals done. Veteran San Santonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich however had a different idea.

There’s been a lot of controversy lately surrounding the “Hack-a-Shaq” method, which is intentionally fouling a bad free throw shooter, usually a big man like Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan. It was really popularly used on Shaquille O’Neal, hence the “hack-a-Shaq” name. There’s been talks about possibly creating a rule that would prevent this method from being used. San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich used it to his advantage during their first round playoff series against the Los Angeles Clippers, which they eventually lost in 7 games. Popovich employed the strategy on DeAndre Jordan and now that the Spurs are out, he was asked about his thoughts.
