Mohamed Morsi Sworn In As Egypt’s President

After a brief issue as to where President-elect Mohamed Morsi would be sworn in, Morsi was sworn in this morning in front of Egypt’s Supreme Constitutional Court and the rulers of the military. Morsi defeated Dr. Ahmed Shafik to become the country’s democratically-elected president. Morsi also took to Tahrir Square on Friday to pledge to the people in the Square that change was coming. Morsi was a huge supporter of the ousting of former President Hosni Mubarak and would visit the square every Friday since January 25. Read more below. Julie1205


Egypt Declares Mohamed Morsi President

After ousting former President Hosni Mubarak Egypt hosted their first democratic election last week and announced that Dr. Mohamed Morsi as president. Morsi, who is a member of the Islamic Brotherhood, was running against Dr. Ahmed Shafik, who worked under Mubarak’s regime as Prime Minister. Morsi had a total of 13 million votes while Shafik had only 12 million. Morsi will be sworn into office within the next two days and the military and police will be heading into the street to get the unruly crowd under control. Hopefully Egypt’s government will gain some control over the crowd and nothing will change in Egypt’s peaceful relationship with the rest of the world especially since Morsi received his degree from the US and both of his children are American citizens. Much like the United States, Morsi must have new rules and laws approved by in a democratic way so hopefully there won’t be any extreme laws in place. Read more below. Julie1205
