Lauryn Hill, Danny Brown And More To Headline The 2015 Afropunk Festival

August 22 and August 23, Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park is going to be where it is at. The 2015 Afropunk Festival lineup has been announced, and there are going to be some pretty dope talent in the building. Realistically, the dopest. Headlining the show is no other than the talented L-Boogie, Danny Brown, Lenny Kravitz, Kelis and Grace Jones. Taking place the day before the BIG event, Grace Jones – and other to be announced figures – will appear for the first annual Afropunk Fancy Dress Ball. The Ball is to raise funds for the AFROPUNK Global Initiative; “an alliance dedicated to moving the needle of progress closer to a holistic, democratic and enlightened representation of people of color within all facets of society…” Check down bottom for the lineup of attendees.

Dope! Lauryn Hill’s ‘The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill’ Album To Be Added To The Library Of Congress!

Not only does she put on for all of Jersey, but she’s not taking her talents to Congress! Lauryn Hill’s classic album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is being inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry, almost 20 years after it has been released! Pieces of art that are considered both historically and culturally important receive spots in this particular library. According to the official press release:

“Lauryn Hill’s debut solo record, following the breakup of the Fugees, is a work of honesty in which Hill explores her feelings on topics that included the deep wonder of pregnancy, the pitfalls of modern relationships and the experience of the sacred. The album effortlessly fuses soul, rhythm and blues, rap and reggae. Hill’s vocal range, smooth clear highs and vibrato are stunning. The rapping is rhythmically compelling while always retaining, and frequently exploiting, the natural cadences of conversational speech. Standout guest performances include Carlos Santana’s soulful acoustic guitar solo on ‘Zion,’ and duets with Mary J. Blige and D’Angelo on ‘I Used to Love Him’ and ‘Nothing Even Matters,’ respectively.”

It is an extreme honor, I’m sure, for Ms. Hill to have her work recognized by such a high caliber of people. That is by FAR one of the best albums ever, so it is only right she is being honored for her work. Good stuff, Lauryn! And if for whatever reason you’ve been living under a rock for the past 20 years, please go purchase this album on iTunes RIGHT now.
