Don’t get mad thinking Jigga was being money hungry, though. This was a charity event, with all proceeds going to the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. Jigga loves the kids! I had no idea about this (not that I could have afforded that ticket anyway, LOL) but I was super jel when I saw a few of my industry peers tweeting pics from the carnival. It was the real deal!! A very, very cool idea on Jay’s behalf. There were all types of rides, some MAJOR prizes (there’s a list of them below), funnel cake, games and all! Kudos, team Jigga! It was a smart move, both because the Nets name is very simple and for its general lack of controversy. Plus, it has that retro cache that Brooklyn loves so much. However, the Nets will require new jerseys. In addition to the usual group of designers, the Nets’ new uniforms will have input from one of their owners.
J. Cole Celebrates Album Release With Jay-Z and Beyonce
Yesterday was a huge day for J. Cole, as the rapper finally got to see his album hit stores…something he’d been waiting on since signing to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation imprint 2 years ago. It was a long day of interviews (with our very own Angie Martinez), autograph signings, live streaming and more…and he capped it off with a private album release party at a small venue in NYC. Caasi and I stopped in to congratulate Cole and have a few drinks. We walked over and spoke to him for a bit and let me tell you….that kid was SO happy. Such a monumental moment for him! It’s truly dope to see an artist get the shine he deserves!! The highlight of the night, however, came in the form of none other than Jay and Beyonce. The Roc boss stopped in to show some love to his protege with pregnant wifey in tow, but the pair didn’t stay for too long. I think the fact they came at all speaks volumes in itself, though. “Nice to see J. Cole and Jay talking,” Chuck Creekmur, CEO of AllHipHop.com tweeted from the VIP. “I suspect those first week #s are going to be sweet.” Perhaps now they can put those Jay x J beef rumors to bed! Actress Gwyneth Paltrow rang in her 39th birthday yesterday and to celebrate, she hit a new Spanish restaurant in NYC with her hubby Chris Martin and their close friends…Beyonce and Jay-Z. Being that I’m in the NYC area, I wanted to check out the spot they went to and see if MAYBE I can afford this place LOL. I’m always looking to try new things and if it’s good enough for these guys, it’s definitely good enough for me but what about my wallet? Well, I lucked out!
