Ok people! Today the interview with Manti Te’o and Katie Couric airs and after that I am hoping this story goes away!!! But for now, of course the story has taken another turn. SMH. The lawyer for the man who has been identified as behind the hoax, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, told the New York Daily News that his client disguised his voice and assumed the identity of Lennay Kekua to try to develop a relationship with Te’o. Since every media outlet in the world is going to run this story about Manti Te’o into the ground, might as well look for the funny stories that will go along with it. A minor league baseball team in Kentucky, The Florence Freedom is planning a fun night at the expense of Te’o in May. It is going to have “Manti Te’o girlfriend bobblehead night”. I was dying laughing once I learned of the details. As part of the promotion in late May, the first 1,000 fans will get an empty bobblehead box, there will be a pretend kiss cam for fans to kiss their imaginary friends and there will be an imaginary food fight in the kids’ area, as well as an air guitar contest. They are going hard! LOL! An empty bobblehead box?? So wrong, so funny! Why do I have a feeling that night will be one of the biggest nights as far as attendance is concerned for the team. NCAA: What Is Going On?! The Heartbreaking, Inspirational Manti Te’o Story Is a Hoax!!!
As most have heard by now (and if you haven’t ESPN is covering it like they covered Tebow), we’re learning that the inspirational story of Manti Te’o’s girlfriend is a hoax. Manti made national headlines earlier this year when his grandmother and girlfriend allegedly died just hours apart and then 3 days later Te’o had 12 tackles in a big win over Michigan. They were his inspiration. BUT now it’s coming out that the girlfriend never existed and the whole story was all made up. I saw this story starting to unfold yesterday on Deadspin and left it alone for a minute to see what unfolds and I’m more confused as ever as to what’s happening. SMH. This story has so many twists and turns it’s crazy! Is Te’o really a victim of the hoax or was he part of the hoax? What made Deadspin look into his story? Was this story made up for self promotion? There’s SO many unanswered questions. This is one of those stories that sports fans will always remember. Manti Te’o has released a statement along with Notre Dame.
