A medical examiner ruled Friday that a Florida A&M University (FAMU) drum major died from “blunt trauma” in a hazing incident, declaring the death a homicide. Robert Champion, 26, died Nov. 19 on a charter bus outside a hotel in Orlando, where the school’s football team had just played rival Bethune-Cookman in the Florida Classic. Since the investigation began, many have spoken out about the incident including Florida Governor Rick Scott, who recommended that FAMU’s President be suspended. However, FAMU students were not accepting of Rick Scott’s recommendation and protested by marching to his mansion and rallying outside of his home.
