For sixteen years, Steve Smith Sr. has terrorized opposing defensive backs on his way to collecting numerous accolades. He decided to take one more shot at those corners in his retirement letter to commissioner Roger Goodell.

“This is to notify you that as of today, I, Steve Smith Sr., will no longer be antagonizing defensive backs. I am retiring from the National Football League”.
If you know anything about Smith, there shouldn’t be much of a surprise with him going out like this. He always did things the way he wanted.
When he wasn’t “antagonizing” those defensive backs, Smith was racking up the stats. He retires as the Panthers all time leader in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. For his career overall he finishes with 1,028 receptions, which is good for 13th in NFL history, along with 14,697 receiving yards, which is good for 7th all time.
There is no doubt Smith will eventually be in the hall of fame. Let’s just hope they include his letter among the other items that go to Canton.
