As expected, there’s been some unfortunate incidents occurring with the athletes competing in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Some Australian athletes were robbed during a fire evacuation in the Rio Olympic village, which is the athletes Olympic housing, and USA swimmer Ryan Lochte was robbed at gunpoint as well as several other incidents. Carmelo Anthony, however, walked through the favelas (the Brazilian slums) and got a mural painted of himself.
Team USA has some time off as they won’t have to get on the court again until Wednesday, when they will play Argentina in the quarterfinals of the Olympic basketball tournament. While the others played beach volleyball, Carmelo Anthony went somewhere more authentic.
Anthony grew up in Baltimore, which has a high crime rate as you know. He posted a picture of himself sitting in the favelas and noted that what people call scary, he calls home.

Not only did Anthony get a tour of the infamous Favelas, he ran into a fan who happened to be an artist. The fan spray painted a mural of Anthony onto a wall. Anthony documented the making of the mural on his Snapchat and noted that only Michael Jackson had received that honor as well.
