Michael Phelps literally destroyed the competition during the final of the 200-meter individual medley, giving him four gold medals in Rio and 22 overall. As the world looked on, Phelps dominated the race in breathtaking fashion and it wasn’t long before he was being praised in the form of some epic memes once the race ended. Just so you have an idea of how big this was, the Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Panthers even put their game on hold so they could watch the race on the jumbotron in the stadium.

The race was billed as possibly the last time Phelps and United States teammate Ryan Lochte will square off in an individual final. Phelps pulled away from the field in the final 50 meters to win in 1:54.66, 1.95 seconds ahead of second-place finisher, Japan’s Kosuke Hagino.
You're now watching the throne. Don't let him into his zone.

As I mentioned before, the preseason game between the Ravens & Panthers came to a halt just so fans and players could watch Phelps go after his 22nd Gold. Phelps is from the Maryland area and a fan of the Ravens.

Phelps already owns all the records when it comes to medals and swimming but when he won last night, he claimed his 13th individual Gold, breaking another record that was more than 2,000 years old, which was set by Leonidas of Rhodes in 152 BC. After doing something like that, you knew some epic memes were coming. Make sure to check the gallery for more.
