5 soldiers are now dead due to the fact that their Light Medium Tactical Vehicle overturned while they were at a low-water crossing on Fort Hood, Texas. 4 more soldiers are missing while 3 additional soilders were rescued.
Lt. Col. Sunset Belinsky, a spokeswoman for the 1st Cavalry Division says at the time the soldiers were onducting convoy operations training. The road that the solders were on was not marked as a low-water crossing. This means the crossing was not prone to flooding.
Belinsky says,
“But because of the unusual amount of rain we’ve received, water did come across the road,”
Fort Hood officials have recently confirmed that there were three soldiers died in the incident on Thursday afternoon. They were taken from the water downstream from the vehicle. The three soldiers who were rescued from the water near the vehicle were are now in stable condition at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. Maj. Gen. John Thomson, the commanding general, says,
“The 1st Cavalry Division is grieving after a training accident at Fort Hood during flash flooding this morning. We are deeply saddened by the loss of several troopers and continue search operations. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated during this difficult time as we care for the families, loved ones and fellow soldiers of those impacted by this tragedy.”
