In a somewhat shocking move, the Memphis Grizzlies have fired head coach, Dave Joerger, even though he was able to guide the team through countless injuries and bad luck into the playoffs anyway.

The Grizzlies apparently were feeling some type of way about Joerger and his agent seeking Memphis’ permission to speak to other teams about head-coaching openings, league sources said, this according to Adrian Wojnarowski of “The Vertical”.
Management began to realize Joerger wanted a bigger contract and maybe a chance to be somewhere else, so they decided to give him that chance by letting him go. Memphis management considered Joerger an excellent coach, but it became increasingly impossible for the sides to continue working together, league sources said.
Joerger really put his heart into this team, which as evidenced by his tears during the final post game press conference of the season after the playoff loss to the Spurs. The Grizzlies used a record 28 players this season on their roster thanks to countless injuries and just straight up bad luck.
If you consider all those things, Joerger did a hell of a job and could have gotten consideration for coach of the year. The Grizzlies know he is good at his job but the trust factor between management and him has been on the fence for a while because Joerger has not been shy about criticizing moves and deals the franchise has made the past few years.
With all that said, don’t expect Joerger to be out of work long as the Kings, Rockets and Pacers all are very interested.
