What type of nonsense is this? I certainly hope this story continues to go viral and the powers that be feel some backlash. Dan Phillips, a sportscaster in Nashville, TN, was reportedly fired after working at the station for more than ten years because he did a short on air tribute to Prince as he went into highlights of a hockey game.

@IamJoeSports

Phillips, of Fox 17 in Nashville, showed his respect to the legendary singer in the form of this tribute.

Seems like a nice thing to do right? Apparently his idiot bosses and moron viewers didn’t feel that way as they flooded the station with complaints and eventually led to him being told his remarks were “insensitive”. How the hell he could be labeled insensitive when he was paying respect to someone is beyond me. Sounds like there are some people living in that area that have personal agendas in this situation.

Yesterday, Phillips took to his Facebook page to confirm he was indeed fired for this.

First of all, I want to thank everyone for the kind words, comments and positive feedback on this tribute I did to Prince last week. It really means a lot.

Unfortunately, there were apparently some viewers, as well as management at the station, who did not feel the same way. They felt I was insensitive. And as a result, I was terminated today.

I’m choosing to use this as a catalyst for some exciting things I’ve been working on for some time now. I’ll have many more details on this in coming days.

For now, thanks again for all of your support. And if you need an old, washed-up sports guy for anything, please let me know!

This is all pretty disgusting on the part of the network. Phillips had been there more than a decade and all his information has been wiped clear off their website and nothing mentioning him is in their bio either, which confirms he really has been let go. Let’s hope something happens about this.
