Next to Chicago, Miami is another major city that is plagued with gun violence. So far, 11 teenagers from Miami-Dade county have been murdered this year including seven-year-old Amiere Castro and six-year-old King Carter. Uncle Luke from the 2 Live Crew gives his blueprints to how the problem can be solved.
Luther Campbell (Uncle Luke), says the federal government has to play a huge part in it, aside from state government:
“The federal government needs to step in. Criminals are aware of the difference between state and federal time, the feds pretty much guarantee those convicted will serve most of their sentences.”
Another step Luke suggests is for the school board to offer vocational courses at certain high schools. Unc is the defensive coordinator for Miami Jackson High’s football team and has spent many years on staff.
“Not every student in these schools can go to college, so the system has to teach them trades they can use after graduating”
He is also encouraging the Miami-Dade Children’s Trust to support local organizations who are providing services such as after-school care and counseling.
“The Miami-Dade Children’s Trust should send a support team to crime-ridden neighborhoods to identify the community organizations that are in good standing with the residents they serve”
