This past Friday, Rosario Dawson was arrested while at the #DemocracySpring protest in Washington, DC. The actress was apprehended for “crowding, obstruction or incommoding,” but thankfully, she was released shortly after. The purpose of the protest was to challenge corruption in politics. According to Dawson, in the last week up to 1,000 protesters have been arrested at Capitol Hill.
“I think there was maybe a desire to not particularly maybe have me arrested because they didn’t want that to be put out there,” Dawson said afterward. “So we got up when they walked away and we sat down and we were arrested.”
Dawson also stated that the police were “really great” and “lovely” with the protesters, which isn’t something we see to often. We can only hope this can lead as an example of how peaceful protesters should be treated.
