A few weeks back, Phil Jackson set twitter off when he compared Steph Curry to former point guard Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (aka Chris Jackson). If you took a moment to think and not react, you knew he wasn’t necessarily comparing skill sets but as you know, most people only saw what they saw and went off. In light of the Warriors recent matchup with Phil’s Knicks, Steph was asked what he thought about the comment.

Phil Jackson might be getting up there in age but he still has power in his words when it comes to basketball. He even had Steph himself go to youtube and watch videos of Abdul-Rauf.

I actually went and watched YouTube highlights of (Abdul-Rauf) at LSU. I really never watched his game before. It helped my basketball knowledge a little bit. There are some similarities for sure. I watched one game – he had 40-something on the road. He had that thrust in transition, pulling up from 3, getting in the paint. I didn’t know much about his game. I knew who he was. I watched three YouTube videos and kept it moving.

Steph overall didn’t seem too impressed and he really doesn’t need to be. The comparisons, if any, are minor at best and have nothing to do with the skill set. Abdul-Rauf was a decent player in his day but nowhere near Steph, then again, that really wasn’t what Phil was aiming for in the first place.
