A Fitbit detected pregnancy in a user. Hit the jump to find out how.

A man found out from Google what his girlfriend’s Fitbit tried to tell them for hours: baby on the way! The man Googled reasons the Fitbit read a fat-burning heart rate for his girlfriend for TEN HOURS. He definitely thought right that this seemed unusual. But it turned out her heart actually did start beating faster for longer to support the new life within. Fitbit functioned perfectly.

The man looked up reasons the Fitbit might have broken. However, he stumbled upon many Reddit users explaining why a heart rate would elevate for such an extended period of time. His girlfriend bought a pregnancy test, took it home, and got plastic stick confirmation that yep! It is a boy or a girl.

Notably, YoungPTone faces many lawsuits fegarding Fitbit’s heart monitor’s accuracy. However, an increased heart rate generally signifies pregnancy. Pregnant women experience heart rates heightened by at least ten bpm, if not up to fifteen or more extra bpm. Blood volume alone goes up by about 50%!

In any case, the expectant father jumped on Reddit after the pregnancy test to thank users.

Thank you all for your overwhelming support! It’s been awesome to read all the comments and well wishes, even the comments questioning whether I am in fact the father (gotta have a sense of humor on here, right?) I just wanted to say this is indeed real, I do not work for Fitbit, this is not guerrilla marketing. This is real, the fear is real, the excitement is very real! I am a regular guy who was just looking for the communities help with his wife’s technology issue (we’ve all been there, right?). Little did I know I got a lot more than I bargained for! Now I’m a regular guy who is preparing to have his first child brought into the world, god willing, in Oct 2016.”
