Indiyah Rush is a 12-year old honor roll student. Rush goes to school at Schrade Middle School in Garland, Texas. However, she may not be there long as she may be sent to an alternative school following a suspension that took place after Rush let an asthmatic friend of hers use her inhaler during an asthma attack.
During a workout class, a girl was having an asthma attack. She was wheezing and gasping for breath. Rush who has been an asthmatic since the age of 5 allowed the girl, 13-year old Alexis Kyle, to use her inhaler. Apparently this deed was not a good one in the schools eyes, as they suspended Rush and also may be sending her to an alternative school for at least 30 days! WTF?
Monique Rush, Indiyah’s mother said,
“I mean they punished her twice. They suspended her on top of sending her to alternative school. I mean, how could you do a kid like that?”
The school claims they are punishing Indiyah for sharing a controlled substance with another student. 30 days in a alternative school is the punishment for this action. Chris Moore, the spokesman for the school says,
“It’s a prescription and one student’s severity with asthma may not mirror that of the girl who let the other borrow her’s and that could have resulted in some pretty significant issues.”
Indiyah’s mother says the punishment is a bit excessive and I totally agree. Imagine what would’ve happened had the girl not taken the inhaler? She said,
“My kid would be mixed with kids that are using drugs at school or being caught with drugs, acting out in class. I don’t want any of that to rub off on her.”
Indiyah says,
“I was just trying to save her life.”
Both of the girls will be at a hearing to find out how many days they will have to spend at a alternative school .. SMH
This is crazy.
