First off lets say happy birthday to one of the most influential people that helped lead the civil rights movement. Today is Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday and he would have been 87 years old today. The Robins Air Force Base in Georgia has everyone giving them the side eyes this week for advertising their “Fun Shoot” with Martin Luther King Jr on the flyer. This event is described as a trap skeet and sporting clay shooting event scheduled on Martin Luther King Day. The Air Force Base has been advertising this even since December 28, 2015. They have since then apologized. Check out the rest of this story after the jump.

The Robins Air Force Base has been advertising a “Fun Shoot” with Martin Luther King Jr on their flyer. Their are a lot of people who are upset about this and The Robins Air Force Base is under fire. They have apologized for their “insensitivity and failure to provide appropriate oversight of our marketing process” or any offense or harm they may have caused. This was all said via email today.
There was no malice of forethought in the flyer’s creation and it was never the base’s intention to portray Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a negative light. It was an honest mistake, to which we’ve personally counseled the parties involved and will provide them with remedial training and appropriate oversight to prevent this sort of inattention from occurring in the future.”
said Robins spokesman Roland Leach.
The squadron noticed “a couple of days ago” and took any references of Dr. King in their flyer, however the event remains scheduled.
