The list of accomplishments and awards earned by Missy Elliott during her career could go on forever. However her most recent honor, Billboard’s “Innovator” Award, seemed to have touched the legendary emcee more than any in the past. After being presented the award by Ciara, Missy Elliot gave an emotional acceptance speech in which she thanked everyone from, Pharrell and Timbaland to her late friend Aaliyah and all the female artists that helped pave the way for her.

Overflowing with emotion Missy Elliot looked back on her career and the obstacles she faced, and challenged the everyone listening to continue to be creative. She said;
“I want y’all to continue to be creative and don’t be scared to take risks. I’ve had to take a lot of risks, and being a woman in this industry for me, as an artist, a writer and producer, I’ve had my ups and downs. There’s times that I have wanted to give up, but God had another plan for me, and if it wouldn’t have been for Him, I wouldn’t be standing here. I just want to say that I thank y’all.”
