This summer a coalition of dozens of police departments accumulated a total of more than 1,000 arrests pertaining to prostitution across the country.
More Than 1,000 Pimps And Johns Arrested In Summer-Long Prostitute Sting
There was an internal program called the National Johns Suppression Initiative, which comprised of a total of 39 law enforcement agencies across 18 states, arresting 961 men trying to buy sex and 71 pimps or traffickers. Officers in 18 states from Arizona to Massachusetts made more than 1,000 arrests.
“This broad national movement should send a strong message to prospective johns that sex trafficking simply is not a victimless crime,” said a sheriff apart of this operation. “These women and girls have been brutalized and exploited – and the most effective way to deter these heinous crimes is to target the demand.”

” Occasionally, officers encountered children while carrying out the stings. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man who was attempting to buy sex with his 2-year old daughter in the car, and the St Paul, Mn. police department arrested a trafficker who was holding his victim’s 3-year old son in order to keep her from going to the police. Dayton, Oh. police recovered a 15-year old runaway who they said was being prostituted on Backpage.com.”
According to a press release, two-fifths of arrests came from online advertisements with 98% ads placed on backpage.com.
