Dr. Dre’s ex-girlfriend and baby mama had mixed feelings about being left out of the N.W.A. biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton.’ She said in a recent interview, “Why would [Dr.] Dre put me in it?” adding, “I mean cause if they start from where they start from – I was just a quiet girlfriend who got beat up and told to shut up.”
However, according to director, F. Gary Gray Dr. Dre’s history of domestic abuse towards Michel’le and Dee Barnes was included in the early drafts of the script.

In one of the earlier drafts Dee Barnes’ assault by Dr. Dre is included. According to the script, the scene opens with Dr. Dre, “eyes glazed, drunk, with an edge of nastiness, contempt.” He’s approaching Barnes at a party in 1991. He’s upset about a segment she hosted about N.W.A. a year earlier.
Their dialogue continues:
Dre’s character: “Saw that [expletive] you did with Cube. Really had you under his spell, huh? Ate up everything he said. Let him diss us. Sell us out,”
Barnes character: “I just let him tell his story, that’s what I do. It’s my job.”
Dre’s character: “I thought we were cool, you and me, but you don’t give a [expletive]. You just wanna laugh at N.W.A, make us all look like fools.”
The screenplay continues, “The conversation escalates, and Barnes throws her drink in Dre’s face before he attacks her, flinging her around like a rag-doll, while she screams, cries, begs for him to stop.”
This was one of the scenes cut from the film before the final draft. Director F. Gary Gray said, “There are so many things that you can add or subtract. Cube always said, ‘You can make five different N.W.A movies.’ We made the one we wanted to make.”
