Rappers and artist everywhere are commenting on the still brewing feud between Drake and Meek Mill. We can collectively agree that Meek has be on the losing side of this feud from the beginning but now the question that still lingers is…Does it matter if you write your own raps? Many artist including A$AP Rocky have chimed in on the issue and say as artists it does matter. Recently, Ice Cube took the time out to put his two cents into the conversation.Hit the jump to see what he had to say.
The former N.W.A. rapper has plenty of experience in this department as he’s written his own raps as well as written for other including the late Eazy-E. When asked about ghostwriters Ice Cube said, “I’m not a fan of it,” he continued, “I respect rappers more when they write their own lyrics. As far as making a song, anybody can put a song together. It don’t matter how it come together. All that matters is what’s coming out the speaker. So, as far as making music and making records, it don’t matter who write it. As far as emceeing and being a rapper, you should write your own stuff.”
So there you have it from one of the greatest..In the end it’s the music that matters, however in terms of respect writing your own lyrics makes a difference. Do you agree with Ice Cube? Sound off in the comments.
