Tyler The Creator has been known to stir up trouble with his misunderstood music and wild-boy antics. However, there’s one place in the world that has finally had it with the former Odd Future chief. **UPDATE** According to Buzzfeed, the Australian government has confirmed that they have not banned Tyler The Creator and that his visa is currently under review.
“The department can confirm that Mr Okonma has a current visa application with the department, and that no decision has yet been made,” said a spokesperson.
The company supporting Tyler’s international tour, Frontier Touring, claims they are on stand by about information regarding the case at hand. If the tour is cancelled, they will most likely be the one of the first to receive confirmation. Stay tuned.
Australia has officially denied Tyler The Creator from entering the country later this year for his international tour. Earlier today, Tyler tweeted that Australian government had officially banned him. The harsh decision is the result of a public outcry from an activist group called Collective Shout, which claims the rapper is “a danger to a segment of the Australian community on the potential basis of incitement to acts of hatred.”
The group called out Tyler’s offensive lyrics to women and alleged glorification of rape in a letter to the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Peter Dutton MP. According to the Daily Mail, the campaign’s co-founder Melinda Tankard Reist felt “disgusted” by his lyrics and encouraged the Australian government to listen to his lyrics before approving his visa.
Apparently, they listened quite well.
This isn’t the first country down under to bar Tyler from their land. Last year, New Zealand banned Tyler for his inappropriate behavior during a previous concert and deemed him a “threat to public order.” Read Tyler The Creator’s reaction to being banned once again in the gallery above.
