After her very public identity controversy hit the fan and her parents outed her as actually being white, Rachel Dolezal has been in serious struggle mode after getting fired from the NAACP as the leader of the Spokane chapter. Rachel was also teaching a class on the politics of black hair at Eastern Washington University, but unfortunately they did not renew her contract for this year, either.
Being that Ms. Dolezal has a 13-year-old son and a house to maintain, she has been trying to do anything to make a buck. She recently revealed that she’s braiding hair and doing weave in order to make ends meat. “I’ve got to figure it out before August 1, because my last paycheck was like $1,800 in June. (I lost) friends and the jobs and the work and — oh, my God — so much at the same time,” Rachel said.
“I don’t know spiritually and metaphysically how this goes, but I do know that from my earliest memories I have awareness and connection with the black experience, and that’s never left me.”
Rachel then went on to explain, “It’s not something that I can put on and take off anymore. Like I said, I’ve had my years of confusion and wondering who I really (was) and why and how do I live my life and make sense of it all, but I’m not confused about that any longer. I think the world might be — but I’m not.”
Hopefully everything works out for Rachel and her son. Ladies – would you let Rachel do your weave orrrrrrr nah? Asking for a friend…
