The gunman who attacked a Navy Reserve yesterday in Chattanooga, Tennessee has been identified as Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez. The 24 year-old from Hixson, Tennessee went on a shooting rampage that killed four Marines and ended in his own death. Police are now investigating the motive behind the killings.
According to witness testimony, Abdulazeez was armed with an AK-47 when he opened fire on doors of a military recruiting center from the drivers seat of a silver Mustang convertible. He then traveled 7 miles down the road to the Naval Reserve Center and continued to open fire. There he killed four marines and was eventually shot and killed by police.
The FBI is now investigating if this attacked is at all linked to the terror group ISIS. President Obama spoke about the tragedy saying “My main message right now is obviously the deepest sympathies of the American people to the four Marines that have been killed,” he added, “It is a heartbreaking circumstance for these individuals … to be killed in this fashion.”
So far all we know of the gunman is he was born in Kuwait and was not on the radar of law enforcement. According to a senior U.S. official, “They’ve run an initial check on him, right now there is nothing popping early in the system on him — but that could change in time. They are still checking multiple other databases on him.”
Officials believe he was a lone gunman.
