Broadway is bringing back a classic musical and picked a very interesting actor to play the lead role. Taye Diggs will be starring in ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ in a role that we have never seen him in!
Taye Diggs will be starring as the main character, Hedwig. The character Hedwig is a transgender rocker who sings about his/her botched surgery. Something very different from what we might be used to seeing Diggs play. Usually he has his shirt off or has a very inmate sex scene with a female. Diggs is actually reportedly very honored to have this opportunity for the role. He say’s
“Hedwig is the role of a lifetime. I’m looking forward to being challenged performance-wise on many levels, as well as being humbled by the musical’s social implications.”
Diggs was actually the sixth actor to take on this role since it’s return last year! The character Hedwig is very over the top and glam maybe that is why producer’s where very strict with choosing the right fit. Diggs has to paint his nails and wear large amounts of glittery make-up for the role. He has stated that he actually liked wearing nail polish. He hasn’t said anything about wearing all the make-up.
Being broadway alumni Diggs is excited to mark this new adventure down on his broadway list. This will be his first time returning to the stage since his 2004 appearance in “Wicked”.
So get ready the musical is set for a 12-week run on July 22 in New York City.
