A man shot and killed himself in front of children at Universal Studios. He was reportedly the subject of two restraining orders after incidents at the park which involved the mother of his child. Read more on the story after the jump!
The incident took place near the ‘Despicable Me’ Ride at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. He was the ex-boyfriend of a Universal Studios employee who works at Mel’s Diner inside the tourist attraction. She called park security after seeing her ex-boyfriend and the father of her child, in the park. Police say he put the gun into his mouth and pulled the trigger near the new “Despicable Me Minion Mayhem” ride. According to the authorities, she obtained two restraining orders against him after incidents at the park, including vandalizing her car. A policewoman confronted the man where he took out the gun and shot himself. Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Lt Eddie Hernandez told reporters, “The deputy tried to talk him out of it, but after going back and forth for 30 seconds or so, he shot himself.”
Several guests at the park saw the suicide. “Everyone was hysterical and praying…We heard there was a guy with a gun near one of the water rides,” says Rosie Love, who had just gone on the Despicable Me ride with her daughter. Authorities say that during the security search they search the belongings of guests, but rarely use metal detectors so he was able to bring the weapon inside the park.
