In Southern China, seven tourists were killed and 19 were injured after they were hit by falling rocks. The tour group was getting ready to board a boat at the Folded Brocade Hill, which was a scenic park on the Li River in the city of Guilin, when large rocks began falling off the mountain. Guilin, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is also home to an amusement park nearly as large as Disneyland.
Four people were pronounced dead at the scene and three critically injured people died at the hospital later. According to the report, eight of the injured people are from Taiwan and suffered minor injuries. The scene of the incident was scattered with blood and belongings of the tourists. Some of the rocks that fell are as large as 3 feet long. It is not unusual for rocks to fall off the mountain and a sign warns visitors to “Beware of falling rocks.”
