Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant will become a free agent in 2016 but talks have already begun about where he will possibly go. The main team being discussed is the Washington Wizards who have improved drastically and would be a homecoming for Durant. Now there’s apparently another team in play.
Durant didn’t play last night as the New York Knicks beat the Thunder 100-92 but could he be coming back to play at Madison Square Garden long term?
via Frank Isola of the New York Daily News:
The Knicks are in play.
“No question about it,” says a person close to Durant. “Kevin loves Carmelo (Anthony). It could work in New York. But never rule out the Thunder.”
OKC is under the gun to return to the NBA Finals for the first time in three years and give Durant every reason to re-sign with the club long-term.
The Knicks hired a head coach Durant likes and Durant’s old high school assistant coach. They’ll have plenty of cap room this summer, and if they don’t burn it all, next summer. But Phil Jackson needs to put together a better roster before we can take them seriously as a contender for Durant.
