NYPD Prepares For New Year’s Eve Protests. New Years Day is less than 7 hours away.Thousands of people are going to make there way to Time Square to watch the ball drop. People have been protesting for weeks now. The NYPD is prepared for more protesting tonight. chief of department James O’Neill stated that he isn’t against protesting as long as it is done in a peaceful way.In light of what happened two weeks ago you can assume there is going to be a lot of protesting and patrolling during tonight’s big event. “This event is a major commitment by the department. We will be patrolling the city by air, by sea, on the ground and in the subway system,” said chief of department James O’Neill during a briefing at police headquarters on Tuesday.
