We’ve seen everybody from celebrities, to politicians participate in the infamous ice bucket challenge and give generous donations towards the efforts to find a cure for the ALS disease. The $100 million came from the 3 million donors who have donated since July of this year. The ALS Association has publicly thanked everyone for their generous donations.
ALS president and CEO says,“The word gratitude doesn’t do enough to express what we are feeling right now,”.
But exactly what is the money being used for, and has there been much progress in finding a cure?

According to chief communications and marketing officer at the ALSA a wheelchair for an ALS patient can cost $30,000, thanks to donations the ALSA can now provide them for free.
The organization also offers financial help for sufferers, and provides support groups to help victims and their families, among other services.
Although there is no set cure for the disease yet, more funding has been given towards research and improving existing medications
