Amar’e Stoudemire has not lived up to the $99.7 million contract he signed in July of 2010 due to several injuries. Stoudemire’s contract expires after 2014-15 and if it’s up to him he wants to re-sign with the New York Knicks in the summer of 2015.
“I want to be a Knick for life and win multiple championships here. I don’t want to go anywhere else, especially with (team president Phil) Jackson coming in,” Stoudemire told Jared Zwerling of Bleacher Report. “He has an incredible legacy; it’s probably unmatched. With a leader like that, it can only become a positive output with that type of leadership. He’s been around great organizations, from Chicago to L.A., so now joining us with the Knicks, it’s great to see.”
Stoudemire’s contract has been untradeable since it could not be insured, however with it being an expiring deal next season there is a small chance he could be moved. Stoudemire is set to earn $23.41 million in 2014-15 and if he wants to stay beyond that he’s going to have to play for a very low salary. In July of 2015 all of the Knicks’ cap room will be used to sign top free agents.
Stoudemire is making steady progress from all the injuries this season and over the last 10 games he’s played in eight of them. In those games he’s averaging 17.5 points and 6.1 rebounds.
