As the violence only increases in Chicago, political activist, “O.G Noonie G.” Ward has called out some of Hip Hop’s best lyricists and innovators and are asking that they transfer that energy into helping the streets of Chi-town. Ward recently stated in an AllHipHop interview:

“It’s the Mexican cartels and the powers that be in Chicago,” stated Noonie G. “The drugs are coming from Mexico to Chicago. It’s a $3.5 billion industry. It’s the hardest on the South and West sides, where you see most of the violence coming from.”

The fuel for violence seems to be in result of the fuel for money and drug importation, according to the activist, and the one thing that may get through is the voice of some hip hop role models. According to the activist not even the police can help “Chi-raq”:

“Our Police Chief is Hollywood. He ain’t no real Police Chief,” “They are getting paid off these kids. Crime pays,” Noonie G. continued. “Each one of these kids are like pawns. Chicago is known to be the most ruthless city for everything. From the police to everything else. They could stop this level of killings if they wanted to”.

He ended his powerful statement by stating that the only solution can be within the streets: “Right now, rappers are coming to Chicago, doing their concerts and getting their money, but they keep on going. Don’t none of them go to the hood. They’re scared. But the thing is your black. You’re not scared of the Ku Klux Klan, but you’re scared of your own people? I am not asking anyone for any money. Their influence would be enough.”
