Kobe Bryant sure didn’t need a movie role to make him famous, but it would of been dope to see him in the role. The lead role in the classic basketball movie “He Got Game” was initially offered to him by director Spike Lee. Kobe turned it down and Ray Allen wound up getting the lead. People to this day still joke about Allen’s acting skills, but I think he did a decent job. I doubt Kobe would of been any better of an actor. I wonder how the movie would of done in the box office if Kobe accepted the offer. Hit the jump to see what he said.

In a recent issue of Sports Illustrated, Kobe is speaking with writer Lee Jenkins when the topic of the movie came up. “That summer Spike Lee begins filming He Got Game, a movie with Denzel Washington about a basketball prodigy named Jesus Shuttlesworth. “I want you to be part of it,” Lee tells Bryant. “Thank you but no thank you,” Bryant says. “This summer is too big for me.” Ray Allen lands the role as Jesus Shuttlesworth”.
Kobe is so competitive he probably wouldn’t of liked losing games in the movie either. Even though Ray took time away from basketball to film the movie, I think his career turned out pretty good as well.
