Shoppers nation wide were very very disappointed yesterday, as they approached the check out line, pulled out their food stamp debit card and swiped yet nothing happened! Hit the jump to find out the source of the problem!
There were a lot of un satisfied customers in grocery stores through out the nation yesterday as a routine check by a Xerox vendor turned into a disaster for consumers in 17 states!
The issue began after some Electronic Benefits Transfer systems by Xerox experienced connectivity problems after a “routine test of a back up system at a location in the midwest” caused uproar around 10 in the morning, reported Xerox spokeswoman Karen Arena to USA Today.
“I understand right now that the system is back up and running,” spokeswoman, Arena stated. “But some states may be experiencing connectivity” issues.
States affected included Ohio, which suffered system issues around 11 a.m., also a Maine grocery store in Beddeford was left packed with parked shopping carts as customers walked out of their establishment empty handed, accompanying several other states.
USA Today reports, “Xerox is notifying retailers to revert to the manual system, meaning SNAP customers can spend up to $50 until the system is back online. SNAP recipients should call the 800 number on the back of their card, and Xerox will guide them through the purchase process”
