You might have heard the old (debunked) myth that an average woman eats 3-10 pounds of lipstick in a lifetime. Well, studies now show that you expose your lips to toxic metals every time you touch up??
You’re already beautiful. You don’t need all this makeup. Yet, as much 8 metals can be found in your lipstick; which is another reason not to apply too often. Metals such as cadmium and aluminum are found in a wide range of lipstick brands, and continuous exposure to these metals can impact your lifespan.
Katharine Hammond, a professor of environmental health sciences at the University of California at Berkeley states, “It matters because this is a chronic long-term issue, not a short-term exposure.”
As the metals accumulate over time, they are absorbed through the mucosal linings in your mouth. So, as the years go by, don’t be surprised if you’re a “walking toxic dump.”
And if this wasn’t enough to loosen up on the lipstick, then maybe Kendrick Lamar’s music video to “No Make Up” will have a stronger impact (if you haven’t seen it yet).
