Mount Rokatenda in Indonesia erupted early on Saturday; which led to over 3,000 people being evacuated. Six people sleeping in a beach village were killed by the volcano.
Since last October, the volcano has been rumbling, so it was a matter of time before it erupted. The volcano spewed out smoke and ash about 1.2 miles in the air. Lasting nearly seven minutes, the eruption left hot lava burning down trees around the beach and villages. Of the six victims who were killed, three of them were adults, two were children, and the last victim’s age hasn’t been determined yet.
Sitting along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” the country is prone to volcanoes and earthquakes. Mount Rokatenda is only one of 129 active volcanoes in Indonesia.
