Jets rookie Geno Smith is trying to become a starting quarterback for his new team. Seems like he isn’t interested in building chemistry with Mark Sanchez and you can’t blame him. While most of the Jets offensive skill players are currently in California at “Jets West”, which is a yearly thing Sanchez does with the offensive players, Smith is in Florida working out on his own. People were wondering if Smith would show up, which Sanchez left open to all offensive players, but never personally invited Smith. Well he is a no show and it has fans and media wondering what that might mean. Hit the jump for more.

Smith was asked earlier in the spring after being drafted if he would attend “Jets West”, to which he said “No Comment”. There are currently several skill position players such as quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs from the Jets roster out in California for the week. Maybe Smith should of went to connect more with some of those guys, but I understand 100% why he is working out on his own. He truly believes he can be the new starter at quarterback for the Jets by the time the season starts. So why pretend like he and Sanchez are buddies when he wants to take his job. I respect it. I do not personally think Smith will be the starter, but if he believes in himself then he should be doing what he feels he needs to do to become the starter. So If he rather work on his game with his own trainers instead of with Sanchez out in California then so be it.
