After a split decision from the judges Adrien Broner was crowned the new WBA Welterweight Champion defeating Paulie Malignaggi. As the fight wrapped up and reporters got their last questions in, Broner shed some light on his next fight. Read more after the jump.
Broner now holds titles in three different weight divisions and is slated as one of the best boxers in the world right now. Of course people want to see the best boxers fight against each other and while Broner agreed to let the fans choose he made it clear that one person is off limits. He didn’t have to say a name but we all know it’s Floyd Mayweather Jr. Broner has often been compared to Mayweather not only because of his techniques but also because of his arrogance. In fact the two are quite close as Broner is like Mayweather’s protege and he was even ringside to watch the fight at the Barclays Center.
While we won’t be seeing a Mayweather/Broner matchup there’s still some very worthy opponents left for him to fight. Broner went up two weight classes to fight Paulie Malignaggi and skipped one pretty big division right now. The 140 division hosts fighters like Danny Garcia, Amir Khan, Ruslan Provodnikov, Lucas Matthysse, Lamont Peterson, Zab Judah and more.
