21-year-old Andrea Rebello, a Junior at Hofstra University in New York, was the victim of an armed break in at her off-campus home this past Friday. According to the police officials, the armed gunman, 30-year-old Dalton Smith, threatened to open fire on the officers while holding his gun to Rebello’s head. The police said they were forced to take action. However, the police officer who fired at the intruder not only shot Smith, but they also hit Rebello accidentally when they opened fire, leaving the two of them dead at the crime scene.
Thomas Dale, Nassau County’s Police Commisioner, went to Rebello’s home in Tarrytown, New York to deliver the horrible news himself to her parents.
