Bayonne Medical Center in Bayonne, New Jersey has the highest billing rates of all the hospitals in the nation. The Medical Center charges the highest amount in the country for the most common treatments. The data used to come up with these figures is from 2011, the most recent available, and comes from the bills the hospital sends to Medicare. The hospital was facing bankruptcy back in 2007 and for a long time many insurance companies refused to work with the hospital because of it’s high costs. Now it seems that the only reason the hospital has recovered well is because of the high billing. Sadly, I know first hand that my hometown hospital that I was born in might be costly but that doesn’t mean you will get good care. Bayonne was only in the top 50% of a study surveying New Jersey hospitals in 2011. For the amount being charged, you would think the care would be better? Read more below.
Bayonne Medical Center makes their money by charging more than double what other hospitals charge for simple services. For more advanced treatements, the hospital will charge up to six times more than other hospitals. For example, the treatment for chronic lung disease at other hospitals is five times lower than the $99,689 that Bayonne is charging.
