Some very sad news to report about actress Valerie Harper. The Mary Tyler Moore Show star has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and only given an estimated window of 3 months to live. She revealed the news in the new issue of People, sharing that she was given the diagnosis on January 15th. Howeer, she remains very optimistic about it. The 73-year-old actress has a rare condition called leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, one that occurs when cancer cells spread into the fluid-filled membrane surrounding the brain. She says the news hit her “like a sledgehammer,” but she’s not thinking about dying. “We spend our lifetimes thinking, ‘I’m never going to die.’ But cancer, says, ‘Hey, not so fast.’ I don’t think of dying… I think of being here now.” She says she plans to spend the next few months at her home immersed in her favorite hobby: gardening.
