Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie set the expectation bar for the Eagles last week when he said that he needs to see “substantial improvement” over last season in order for coach Andy Reid to keep his job.  There wasn’t a line drawn about what constitutes substantial improvement, but quarterback Michael Vick has some thoughts on that front.

Vick was asked what needs to happen in order for the 2012 season to go down as a success for the Eagles and his answer didn’t leave much room for interpretation.

“Man, I ain’t got no ring on my finger. I ain’t got one. That’s it. I don’t know what else,” Vick said, via Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com. “I’ve been there. Playoffs is playoffs, you know? But that’s the road you’ve got to take to where you want to go. Like every quarterback, I want a championship. That’s it.”

Vick’s future in Philly doesn’t look much different from Reid’s. If there is a coaching change after another disappointing season, it’s hard to imagine that Vick would emerge from the rubble as the Eagles’ starter. Should that worst case scenario play out, Vick will be turning 33 coming off of two down seasons that won’t do him any favors when he goes looking for another starting job.

Based on Lurie’s comments, a championship isn’t the only way to avoid that fate but it would definitely be the best way to ensure no change in current operations in Philly.
