Giants linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka got the ball rolling toward Wednesday’s opener with the Cowboys on Thursday when he fired a shot at Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Responding to Jones’ vow to “beat the Giants’ assesâ€Â at a pep rally earlier this year, Kiwanuka said that Jones is just tired of watching the Giants do that to his team in recent years and opined that it must be “tough on the outside looking in on all of these championships lately.†Jones toldUSA TODAY on Friday that he thinks Kiwanuka hit the nail right on the head.
“I agree with him, and the only thing I’m saying is that I’ll never get used to it,†Jones said. “It is tough on the outside looking in. That’s the way I felt when I got in the NFL as an owner. I didn’t want to be on the outside, looking in.â€
Jones and the Cowboys have been on the outside looking in since winning the Super Bowl after the 1995 season and his team has missed the playoffs in three of the last four seasons. Given the fact that the Giants have won two Super Bowls and appeared in a third since the last Cowboys championship, it isn’t hard to believe that he’s tired of watching the Giants succeed.
His team will have a chance to start turning things around in five days.
