The couple welcomed their first child, son Edward Duke Rancic, via gestational surrogate at 10:12 p.m. Wednesday in Denver, Colorado, E! News confirms. “Bill and I are blessed beyond words to welcome Edward into our lives,” Giuliana, 37, tells E!. “Thank you so much to everyone who supported us along the way. We are so in love with the little guy already!”
With Giuliana and Bill, 41, in the delivery room, the labor lasted just over four hours; new dad Bill cut the umbilical cord and a teary Giuliana was first to hold little Edward. The twosome have already fed their son and given him a bath. “G and I feel blessed beyond words,” Bill tweeted. “We did it!”
Giuliana and Bill have been very open with fans on their reality show Giuliana and Bill about their four, painful years of struggling to conceive, which included failed IVF treatments and a miscarriage.
Late last summer, Giuliana was going to undergo another round of IVF when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She decided to have a double mastectomy and is currently cancer free. The couple told Us Weekly in June that they will forever be indebted to their son. Bill explained, “Technically this baby saved her life because had she not gone through IVF — the doctor made it mandatory that she get a mammogram — they would have never found what they found so we owe this little guy debt of gratitude and I’m sure he’ll never let you forget it!”
The E! News anchor and motivational speaker/author, who wed in September 2007, have homes in Chicago and Los Angeles and plan to bring their son home first to Chicago. “We’re going to go from Colorado to Chicago and then spend September and October in Chicago. And then we’ll come back to the West Coast,” Bill told Us last month. Since their baby boy will be too little fly, the family will be taking a road trip to California. “I’ve got a tour bus taking us from Denver to Chicago.”
And new mom Giuliana had her son’s nursery already planned out back in June. “It’ll be clean and simple,” she told Us. “It won’t be cluttered. I don’t want the baby to be in a cluttered environment.”
