The Los Angeles Lakers could be the front-runner in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes after today. According to Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears, the Orlando Magic are meeting with the Lakers to discuss a possible trade for center Dwight Howard.
Magic general manager Rob Hennigan and his staff headed west on Monday for the NBA Pro Summer League in Las Vegas.
The Lakers and the Houston Rockets are the two teams vying for the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. The Lakers were in talks over the last year about potentially trading Howard for Andrew Bynum. A package deal centered around Bynum could be a more attractive offer for the Magic.
Both centers have yet to indicate they would sign a contract extension beyond the 2012-13 season.
