A decade later and he’s back.
The Houston Rockets have agreed to sign-and-trade veteran center Marcus Camby to the New York Knicks in exchange for Toney Douglas, Josh Harrelson, Jerome Jordan and second round picks in 2014 and 2015, according to Yahoo Sports. The Knicks will reportedly send cash to cover Douglas’ $2.1 million contract. Camby will reportedly receive a 3-year contract worth $13.2 million with the final season only partially-guaranteed. The deal will take him past his 41st birthday.
Ken Berger of CBSSports.com has confirmed the sign-and-trade agreement, which cannot go official until July 11, when the NBA’s 10-day free agency moratorium is complete.
The two teams pursued a sign-and-trade because the Knicks, who are over the cap, had no other method for making Camby such a lucrative offer. Both Harrelson and Jordan are on minimum deals. The Rockets clear the two picks for agreeing to the trouble.
Camby, 38, went to the NBA Finals as a member of the 2000 Knicks and has spent the last decade on a world tour of NBA towns, including the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Portland Trail Blazers and Rockets. The Blazers traded him to the Rockets at the 2012 trade deadline in exchange for Hasheem Thabeet, Jonny Flynn and a second round pick.
Known for his shot-blocking and offensive rebounding abilities, Camby averaged 4.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 blocks per game last season. He’ll serve as Tyson Chandler’s back-up in New York.
Camby was also linked to the Miami Heat during the free agency process.
