Both the Orlando Magic and the Brooklyn Nets are desperate to save their teams and they’re both relying on two men, Deron Williams and Dwight Howard. Â The decision of one ultimately decides the fate of the other. Â Read more after the jump.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:
Dwight Howard is signed through the 2012-13 season, but another fallout with management has left him wanting a trade soon. Howard will push for a trade to the Brooklyn Nets before the June 28 NBA draft to clear the way for Nets free agent Deron Williams to re-sign with the Nets and partner in the new Brooklyn arena next season.
As I reported earlier this morning, Williams is said to have narrowed his choices down to the Brooklyn Nets and the Dallas Mavericks. Â If this information about Howard is true as well and he lands with the Nets then Deron will most likely sign a contract there as well. Â How Dwight Howard is going to get this deal done is beyond me. Â The Nets don’t really have pieces of value. Â They have Brook Lopez who missed majority of the season due to injury and his salary is only $4.1 million. Â Gerald Wallace opted out of the final year of his contract and thanks to him and good old Billy King, the Nets don’t have a pick in the first round of the draft. Â The Dallas Mavericks not only have a better roster than the Nets, it’s also Deron’s hometown. Â The Nets must make something happen or their inauguration in Brooklyn is looking bleak. Â They can hope that Dwight Howard refuses to sign a contract extension anywhere else other than Brooklyn but he’s been quite indecisive as we’ve seen over the past year. Â The Magic’s new GM Rob Hennigan has quite the tough road ahead of him as it seems Howard will be gone no matter what.
